Trivia chat game: first right answer wins

How a question works

A moderator types !trivia, or a timer asks a question for you. The bot posts the question and the first chat message with an accepted answer wins the reward, 100 points by default. If nobody gets it within 30 seconds, the bot reveals the answer.

Answers are forgiving: capital letters, accents, punctuation and emotes are ignored, and a longer message counts if it contains the answer as whole words.

A round can have several questions. Choose a fixed number or a random number between two values, and the bot keeps score and posts the top three at the end.

Questions and rewards

Trivia has no bets. The winner of each question receives the reward from your points system, so trivia adds points to your community instead of taking them. With the points system off there is nothing to win.

Built-in question packs are available in English and Hebrew; channels in other languages get the English pack. Add your own questions with up to ten accepted answers each: 20 custom questions on the free plan, up to 1000 on Premium.

Set up Trivia

  1. Turn on the points system on the Points page, or switch on “Play without points” on the Mini-games page if you want rounds without stakes.
  2. Open Mini-games in the dashboard sidebar and switch Trivia on.
  3. Press Configure to change the rules, timing, look and every chat message the bot sends for this game.
  4. Use the Test button next to the overlay preview to play a practice round on your overlay. Test rounds never move points and never post in chat.

Show it on stream

Trivia is already part of your all-in-one overlay, so if that browser source is in your scene there is nothing else to add. The game stays invisible until a round starts and fades out when it ends.

If you want to place the game on its own, copy the overlay URL from the game’s settings page and add it in OBS as a Browser source at the size shown next to the URL. Keep that URL private: it belongs to your channel.

The overlay only shows the result; the outcome is decided on the server with a cryptographic random number before the animation starts. If no overlay is open, the result is posted in chat straight away.

Questions

Is trivia free?

Included on the free plan. Custom questions are limited to 20 on the free plan.

Can viewers on TikTok answer?

Yes, their answers count. InstiBot cannot post in TikTok chat, so the question and the winner are announced on your other connected platforms and on the overlay.
