OBS overlays

OBS overlays for Kick, Twitch, YouTube and TikTok

Add one InstiBot browser source to OBS and get alerts, chat, goals, a subathon timer and mini-games on stream. Place everything in the layout editor.

Add your overlay to OBS

That single source shows every widget you switch on, each in its own place on a 1920×1080 stage, scaled to the source size. Any 16:9 size works the same way. Nothing is visible while nothing is happening, so the source can stay on top of your scene.

  1. Open Widgets in the dashboard and choose the “Your InstiBot overlay” tab.
  2. Copy the overlay URL. It is blurred on screen until you hover it, because it is private.
  3. In OBS, add a Browser source to your scene and paste the URL. Set the size to 1920×1080.
  4. Back in the dashboard, use Test on stream to send a test follow or tip and check it appears.

Choose what appears

The “What’s in your overlay” list has a Show in overlay switch and a Configure button for every widget. Alerts, mini-games, shoutouts, polls, predictions, the viewer queue and the now playing card are on by default. The chat overlay, goals, event labels, the subathon timer and the viewer counter are off until you switch them on.

Changes you save in the dashboard reach the overlay straight away; you never need to refresh OBS after editing a widget.

The layout editor

Widgets → Layout editor shows a 1920×1080 canvas. Drag a widget to move it, drag its corner to resize, use the arrow keys to nudge it, or type exact X, Y, width, height and scale values. Quick place buttons snap a widget to a corner or an edge with a safe margin. Turn on “Show saved overlay behind” to see the live overlay under your boxes.

All mini-games share one zone, because only one game is on screen at a time. Some default positions overlap, such as goals and labels in the top left, so check the layout once when you switch new widgets on.

Separate sources for single widgets

If you want a widget in a different scene or with its own filters in OBS, open the widget, expand “Advanced: separate Browser Source” and copy the widget-only URL. A widget-only source fills its own size instead of using the 1920×1080 stage. Hide that widget from the main overlay, or it will show twice.

Keep the URL private

The overlay URL contains a token that works like a password for your overlay and OBS docks. Don’t show it on stream or share it. If it leaks, press Regenerate next to the URL: every overlay and dock URL changes at once, and you paste the new one into OBS. Old URLs stop working immediately.

When the overlay stays empty

  • Check that the whole URL was pasted, and that it isn’t an old one from before you pressed Regenerate. An old or partial URL loads but never shows anything.
  • Add ?debug=1 to the end of the URL in a normal browser: a small badge shows whether the overlay is connected.
  • Make sure the widget is switched on under Show in overlay.
  • Event widgets are invisible until something happens. Send a test from Test on stream.
  • Alerts wait up to 2 minutes for an overlay to connect, then they are skipped. Keep OBS open with the source loaded while you are live.
  • If the same widget is in two sources, it plays in both.

Questions

Are the overlays free?

Yes. Every widget works on the free plan. Premium raises upload limits and unlocks custom code and more variants for alerts.

Do I need special OBS settings?

No. A Browser source at 1920×1080 is enough. Sounds from alerts and text to speech play inside the source, so OBS captures them with the source audio.

Does it work with Streamlabs or other software?

Any streaming software with a browser source can load the same URL.
